Subscription dues are just like a magazine subscription. It gives you 12 months of membership in the VFW. The basic breakdown of how it works is:

Since 2015, dues are processed on an annual system. Members paying their initial dues are processed at National, where their future expiration date will be the last day of the month processed. Example would be that you send in your first dues 12 Feb and are processed on the 21st. Your future expiration date would be 28 Feb for all years you continue to pay.

Annual membership Dues are $35 and due before the last day of the anniversary month you joined the VFW, else the date of annual renewal for certain long-time members.

The theme for both programs is:
"What a Veteran Taught Me About America"

What we call "Scuttlebutt" is just an open-door session for any Veteran or family member to come in, relax, and talk all-things Veteran. Coffee is on, and often there are donuts and/or sausage biscuits.

The term "scuttlebutt" is synonymous to "water cooler talk".
